Plaid
House is home to ten teenage girls who have been placed there
by the Department of Children and Families . The ages of the girls range from
14-18 years and referrals are accepted from anywhere in New
Jersey. Plaid House is a community-based program that provides
a complete living experience. Girls are enrolled in local school
and are encouraged to participate in the community by attending
after school classes, working or volunteering.
The
program provides an opportunity for residents to learn and grow
through daily living experiences. Treatment plans are individualized
for each child to take into account their diverse needs.
The
group home uses a level system to assist girls to progress through
the program and make explicit the expectations of the program.
As girls become ready for more responsibility they move up levels
and gain more privileges.
The
staff provide a varied schedule throughout the week including
recreational and educational activities. The value of good nutrition
and health is emphasized and girls are encouraged to exercise
regularly.
Individual
and group counseling is provided on site by the Program Manager
and off site by therapists in community agencies. All girls
are seen regularly by Plaid Houses consultant psychiatrist.
